DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Study Design and Methodology
- Collaborate with principal investigators to develop research questions and hypotheses.
- Advise on study design, including selection of statistical methods and sample size calculations.
- Work with data managers to ensure data integrity, quality assurance, and accuracy.
- Organize, clean, and preprocess data for analysis.
- Developing and maintaining statistical code libraries.
- Analyze complex research data using appropriate statistical methods (e.g., regression, survival analysis, longitudinal analysis).
- Use statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, R, Python) for data analysis.
- Interpret statistical results in the context of the research question.
- Prepare statistical analysis plans and reports summarizing analytical methods and findings.
- Collaborate on the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, grant submissions, and presentations.
- Explain statistical concepts, findings, and limitations to non-statistical collaborators.
- Conduct statistical review of research findings to ensure accuracy and validity.
- Document all analytic decisions and maintain reproducibility of research.
- Stay up-to-date with latest statistical methods and best practices.
- Participate in research team meetings and contribute to multidisciplinary discussions.
- Training and mentoring junior analysts or other team members.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree required or bachelor’s degree and 2 years relevant experience required.
- Required degree concentration: Biostatistics/Statistics, Epidemiology, or other scientific, health, medical or social sciences field with a concentration in Statistics.
- Relevant experience is defined as: Experience in Biostatistics/Statistics, Epidemiology, or other scientific, health, medical or social sciences field where activities included gathering, analyzing and interpreting statistical data.
- Statistical Theory and Methods: Extensive knowledge of advanced statistical concepts (e.g., regression, multivariate techniques, survival analysis, Bayesian methods, longitudinal data analysis, natural language processing).
- Research Methodology: Understanding of study designs (observational, experimental, clinical trials), power analysis, and sampling techniques.
- Data Science & Informatics: Familiarity with large datasets, data mining, and statistical modeling.
- Programming Languages: Proficient knowledge of statistical programming (e.g., SPSS, R, Python).
- Statistical Analysis: Advanced skills in applying and interpreting a wide range of statistical techniques.
- Data Management: Skillful in cleaning, organizing, and managing complex and large datasets.
- Programming: Ability to write, debug, and optimize code in statistical software; automation of tasks.
- Problem Solving: Ability to identify problems, evaluate solutions, and choose appropriate analytical approaches.
- Communication: Skillful in presenting complex statistical concepts to non-statistical audiences; preparing clear reports and publications.
- Regulatory and Ethical Standards: Knowledge of IRB procedures, HIPAA regulations, and other compliance relevant to human subjects research.
- Collaboration: Effective teamwork, particularly in multidisciplinary settings (clinicians, researchers, data managers).
- Interpretation & Translation: Ability to interpret statistical findings and translate them into actionable recommendations.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to critique research protocols and manuscripts for statistical rigor.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to new statistical methods, software, and research topics.
- Innovation: Ability to develop novel statistical solutions for challenging or unique research scenarios.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure precision and accuracy in statistical analyses and reporting.
